What Are Tactical Patches?
Tactical patches are removable fabric or PVC badges, usually backed with hook and loop fastener, that attach to gear such as vests, caps, jackets and bags. They carry a unit name, callsign, flag, role marker or personal design.
They are not official uniform items. Military and police units generally use them on gear where regulations allow. Airsoft teams, gun clubs, security companies and outdoor brands adopted them for the same reasons: identity, team pride and quick swaps.
A tac patch is also called a morale patch, morale badge or operator patch. The terms overlap, and most buyers use them interchangeably.

What Types of Custom Tactical Patches Can You Order?
For gear you change often, hook and loop (velcro) backing is the best choice. The hook side goes on the patch and the loop side goes on your gear or a loop panel. You can remove, swap or reposition the patch without tools.

How Do You Choose the Right Patch Size and Design?
Match the size to the level of detail in your artwork. Simple logos and short text work at smaller sizes. Fine lines and long text need more space.
Practical guidelines:
- Keep text large enough to read at arm’s length. As a rule of thumb, embroidery lettering under about 0.25 inch (6 mm) tall becomes hard to read.
- Choose fewer colors for a bolder look. Each additional color adds detail.
- Leave room for the border. A merrowed (rolled) or laser-cut edge finishes the patch cleanly.
- Check your mounting surface. A loop panel on a plate carrier often has limited space.

Attach them to loop-lined panels or directly to loop-compatible fabric such as the front and back of a plate carrier, shoulder areas, and pack panels. Always check that the surface accepts hook and loop before ordering.

How Do You Apply Tactical Patches With Velcro?
Clean the loop surface, align the hook side of the patch to it, and press firmly for a few seconds. Here is the full process:
- Choose a clean, dry loop surface free of dust and lint.
- Position the patch before pressing. Check it is straight.
- Press firmly across the whole patch for several seconds.
- Check periodically. Brush lint out of the hook side if grip weakens.
- Avoid pulling the patch off at a sharp angle, which can wear the hooks.
For adhesive-backed patches, follow the instructions supplied with your order, including any heat or cure time.
